Introduction

One of the most active women's groups in Russia is the Association of Independent Women's Initiatives (AIWI), founded in 1991 by Dr. Valentina Uspenskaya of Tver State University. Their main goal is consciousness-raising, focusing on issues of sexism, racism, and classism.
